| Here are two very different
works in progress - Peggy's playful Zen Space, and
Lynne's West Living Room Nook of texture. Both rooms
are complete makeovers, and currently being realized. |
|
Peggy's
Zen Space meant renovating the wood floor and one
wall, a make over on the fireplace, and removing all furniture to
make room for the new selections. Potlights were installed in the
ceiling. Appropriately scaled trim added around the windows and
along the floor after the room was painted. The fireplace hearth
and mantel will be done in fine matte black slate (white area on
the left in the photo below).
The barrel tables were discovered at Fred Meyers,
and add an earthy texture as a counterpoint to the white sofa, while
it relates to the paperbag brown feature wall. |

Peggy choose a white sofa, custom ordered from JC Pennies, and added
some cheerful Indian silk and cotton pillows. |
The existing brick colored
stone fireplace was cracked in several places and the old hearth
was fashioned from patterned 1970's tile mounted on piece of plywood
affixed to the wood floor. We removed all of the tiles, including
those serving as the landing at the front door, the glue and nails
holding the old tiles in place.
Primed and faux stone painted out the dark brick.
We wanted a minimal effect, for low cost; we filled the cracks and
underpainted the fireplace with a medium grey-brown acrylic paint,
and we used a lovely paperbag wall paint to lend depth, and give
more of a feeling of stone. |

The elements to complete
this room include ceiling to floor curtains (from Ikea, with added
details) for added softness and flow, a Japanese sideboard / entertainment
center for storing CDs, DVDs, magazines and books, and a screen
to secure privacy, and filter the bright southern light which flows
in from the very large windows.
Fine and poster art, an entry rug, and a large water
sculpture will be added as soothing elements for Peggy -- an avid
mediator who loves the environment and is accomplished gardener.
The next room we will renovate is the second bedroom
which will become her study and additional closet space, in a modern
style - we expect to make use of a light coral color. |

| Lynne's Living Room Nook (below)
required a complete makeover from the 2 by 4's walls out, including
insulation, wallboard, new electrical, mud, tape and paint - the floor
is completely new too. All of the detailed expert carpendry, including
installing the new hardwood floor, was executed by her husband, with
extra wide lintels for their 6 cats. The cats may love the new room
even more than their people do! |
Because Lynne loves texture
we are focusing on bringing lots of textures into the living room
nook, so we began with neutral browns to build the base on. Lynne
selected new custom matching love seats, a great new Tibetan - Afganistani
carpet, created using New Zealand wool, and a glass and metal table
with Gothic supports. Her favorite colors are various shades of
green so we will be introducing many lively and fresh green elements
to this room, as our next step. |
 |
The sofas and
carpet are both very comfortable and easy on the eyes - attracting
attention to the people in the room due to their refined earthy
colors. Even in bright daylight the couple's cats (not pictured)
seem to blend right in, as well the furniture should allow.
We will be adding drapes and wood blinds, trading
out the art, sculptural elements, a vase, and completing the library
shelves. A new dutch door will change the entry to the living room
from the West so the top part of the door can remain open during
the summer.
Lynn and her husband's continuation of this renovation
includes replacing their kitchen and hallway floors, re-doing the
kitchen, hallway and small library. Once complete we will clean
out their basement and make it over completely, including adding
bedrooms. They also plan to build a garage to store more than just
their cars. |

This Tibetan - Afganistan style rug made from New Zealand wool is
not only beautiful the cats completely love it. |
| Jeanette's French Country Hobbit
(below) a complete home renovation in Seattle, Washington
in the Crown Hill neighborhood. Below are the living room and dining
room, facing north. Tibetan carpets were handmade for her by friends
in the Himalayan foothills. The toile used in the dining room was
based on an heirloom pattern. |

Table setting for staging house preparing for house sale in Crown
Hill, Seattle, Washington, plates and silver from the owner's collection,
napkins to match with Indian table cover. |

Leaded crystal hanging in window for rainbow effects, and a fresh
apple pie on the microwave.
We refinished the existing 1930's metal sink with several hand
sprayed layers of white enamel - you can not just buy this sort
of feeling and it is so easy to kill it - the house is very cosy,
soft and clean --hobbits love it. Hand made curtains with store
bought ones on sale for $1 from Lowes.

Washington with matching bedframe.
Painted white Lane chest from second hand store supports an antique
French bedside lamp, and "Down East" style trash
can from Ross Dress for Less. Handmade curtains tied back with
ribbon.

French Country Hobbit style bed with simple
wooden chair (image shown on the right). A wookie is fine here with
the color pallet of orange, yellow and green. The entire room has
a warm yellow glow not just due to the four new lights we installed
glow warmly due to the light the white, yellow and gold curtains
produce. |

Yes, these are all real rooms in Seattle. Your rooms or your

compared to the enjoyment and resale value you will have.
The variation in style are based on the personalities, styles,
needs and wants of our diverse clientele. That's what a great designer
does - refines, clarifies and cheers their customer's style on and
brings it to fruition on their budget! |
