Web Projects Portfolio
A Brief list of design projects by year

Currently Linda Lane is working for a technical consulting firm in Bellevue, Washington.Kids with candy. Boudha, Kathmandu, NepalShe returned from travel in Asia in the fall of 2007 where she volunteered as a photographer for a large event in Nepal for 5 weeks from late September to November 2007.

Previous to that she designed a new Microsoft Windows XP based application for Amazon.com, while continuing to attend the University of Washington Information School, to earn a Masters of Science in Information Management Executive program.

Lane worked on a number of security applications for Microsoft, including Windows Vista. She managed building the backend for a revision of Microsoft's Windows Genuine Advantage and product activation software 'Geo.Map'.
microsoft anteroom
This application allows validated Windows users to install updates and premium content for new versions of Windows operating systems (XP and Vista) and additional applications. This application touches Windows versions such as the starter Editions.

Lane also provided user interface design advice for Office Live eCommerce.

Lane accomplished this complex international project, tested and released on time, and under budget with a 18 person team, composed of 8 developers, a dev lead, 7 testers, and two analyst / project managers. She interviewed and advised on the hiring of the team members, and lead the team to success.

Healing Patterns, a site created in one night Designed and built Queens Baby Boutique an ecommerce site specializing in fine and designer clothing for children in Sept-Oct 2005. She advised the owner on using the standard display and ecommerce tools to maintain the site more easily.

Linda Lane worked with Microsoft for 3 months on the release of MSN Spaces, and helped the team raise and resolve very challenging safety issues there, and performed the business acceptance testing of the final version of MSN Spaces itself. Linda wrote the MSN Spaces' Code of Conduct and advised on the updated MSN Terms of Use.

In the past few months Linda designed, planned and implemented several sites, logos, and photography for small businesses. A prior Wonderlane team member, close friend Julie Hamilton moved to the beautiful coast of North Africa.

In 2004 we completed a number of basic business sites for a consulting firm, the public housing site for Salishan, the largest public housing project in Washington state, based in Tacoma, and a fitness site.

The Salishan site was designed to communicate with the residents of the Salishan community who are affected by the construction of the new community and give information about how to buy low cost housing, as well as information to the contractors working on the project, the schedule and contract information for the principles responsible for the Salishan building and renovation project.

As product manager on these sites advised on creating admin tools, databases, privacy, security and other related issues.

We created basic site business designs for an architect, and a jazz musician, an alternative treatment site and created ongoing marketing designs for other companies.
The architect's site includes a facinating building plan for a completely solar library that can be built in any remote site. If paired with an iridium or satellite network/internet connection it would provide an education center for students anywhere globally.

Lane Design Studio Architect Roland Lane's design showcase for a Home Office Serving as photographer Linda Lane took photos of meetings, portraits of business owners, employees, business locations, and photos of products to integrate into web designs and used in publication on Websites.

We redesigned and simplified the Problematics technical business problem-solving software and support site, and created a new logo for the Blitzkrieg Software company.

In 2003-04 Linda worked on redesigning Microsoft's OM 5 eCommerce, advising on process flows, cascading stylesheets, and branding color selections, building the preliminary wireframes, flows, and suggested that the proprietary Microsoft product add an administrative dashboard for easier product and program onloading. As it now appears, Microsoft will be adopting this ecom platform throughout the company.

She spent several months researching 21 ecommerce sites, and documented her findings as part of two reports on current eCommerce trends for Microsoft. Linda advised on user interface studies which lead Microsoft to rethink its presentation of MSDN's subscription offerings, an unexpected result of the UI testing at BlinkIA that Microsoft engaged in as a result of her recommendations.

(examples of this software interface are not available while it is under development)
Welcome page design for Microsoft's OM5 eCommerce package Provided analysis of more than twenty one eCommerce sites and processes to redesign Microsoft's Order Management (OM) 5.0 interface. This new updated interface will provide a much more flexible user interface, over a new .NET framework to upgrade more than 100 eCommerce sites, and more easily add new tenants to Microsoft's
highly Welcome page design for Microsoft's OM5 eCommerce packagesuccessful World Wide Operations eCom platform. The prototype visually represents three different business models, Subscription (MSDN), BuyNow (one item) and Shop (regular e-tail/retail shopping) styles.

Designed and implemented, in six languages, two major ecommerce sites for Microsoft on existing OM platform (ASP XML) for the MS Employee Purchase and Home Use Programs with a two person team, and many supporting team members, who wrote, edited, and translated the content for the site very rapidly.

Advised the program directors on look and feel as well as creating, executing designs, and applying designs to older Order Management system using technical workarounds.

These pages are samples of the variations on design possible with this system we designed, based on ASP.NET, existing Microsoft Order Management eCommerce technology, and recommending more extensive use Welcome page design for Microsoft's OM5 eCommerce packageof CSS (cascading style sheets). The suggested sample images are from the Image Bank, and Getty Images.

The proposed new designs, based on the proportions of the golden rectangle (or "Golden Mean") and matching all of Microsoft's business Web design requirements are tested and retested by Blinkia Interface auditors until the user's ratings match refined customer usability needs, as we proposed in the initial presentation to Microsoft management.

In August 2004, submitted suggested updates to final OM 5 interface design plans. Microsoft Employee Purchase Program

Details on designing and building Microsoft's EPP and HUP
Linda Lane designed and built two program identities for the Home Use Program and the Employee Purchase Program at Microsoft in a rush effort to onboard these twin programs over a single weekend in Issaquah, Washington. View more design details.

With her team of two (including her boss!), and Microsoft's internal localization team worked quickly in advance translating the site content in preparation to build the sites in six languages, covering Microsoft's Home Use Programcontact information, answers to common questions, and privacy policy. Linda and her team obtained, wrote and edited much of the content. She designed the look and feel of the Microsoft product presentation for both sites, scripting some content against the existing Order Management 4.x Microsoft's propriatary eCommerce program, and reworking existing cascading style sheets.

Wonderlane team members, Linda Lane and Julie Hamilton created two business sites for Seattle based acupuncture sites, working closely with acupuncturists. The former business partners Sara Storm, LaC, MMQ, and Charlotte Stuart, Licensed Acupuncturist, M.Ac., Dipl., NCCA, RN (Stuart subcsequently relocated to New Zealand) to describe the services they offer, and describe what acupuncture is, and how it works. Ms. Stuart's website won an award for one of the top acupuncture sites in the world in 2003.

Wonderlane's Julie Hamilton did double duty as the model patient posing for the acupuncture photography on Sara Storm's site illustrating how acupuncture works and to decrease aprehension about how super fine needles are used in this ancient and effective alternative medical practice.

Linda Lane wrote and created a sound sample Website to promote film music composer Billy Hale's business, by using Realplayer files, and mp3 files of his compositions. She wrote descriptions of Hales music to optimize for Search engines and attract their client base of both filmmakers and alternative music buyers to discover his site.
Composer Billy Hale's sound sample site
The Academy of Languages translated the site into French. The site management for Bilyhalemusic.com was assumed by Mr. Hale's business partner Jim Chase.

Premera
At Premera, a 2 billion dollar a year financial institution, advised and assisted the company in planning, organizing, testing, marketing and launching the first true web based application, RapidRate, for Brokers/Agents to quote Small Group Health Insurance proposals in Washington and Oregon State via the following secure sites. Nearly every aspect of the process was new to Premera, nearly every group affected to some degree, and we enjoyed helping them with that change and to develop an ecommerce presence on the Web.

More detail on security and HIPAA.

RareMedium
While working for the VP of Finance we developed one of the successful eCommerce applications to weather the dotcom crash, "LiveMarket"; with my five person team we served as Principle Strategist in planning, redesigning, and deploying software for the following sites:

Pandesic
Pandesic was the largest e-commerce ASP in the U.S., using a proprietary API, SAP backend, SQL databases, MS Site Server, Java/JSP, and VB based COM /DCOM with more than 100 enterprise level e-com sites live in 2000. See this ASPNEWS Archive for more information.

Honoring Pandesic's non-disclosure agreement we can not discuss the technical nature or business relationships of the companiesweworked with, howeverwecan give a brief discription of the etailing sites here. Most information presented is a digest of PR announcements and archived articles available elsewhere on the Web.

As what is curently called the technical release manager I supervised a development team, general contractors, and/or managed relationships on the following 48 Enterprise Level eCommerce Web Sites and Online Content:

adidas
As adidas is one of the largest sportswear and athletic stores in the world, it probably needs no introduction. The Web site was developed to successfully increase their ability for marketing and sales world wide, and strengthen the brand. It is one of the most complex sites developed technically, visually. The structure of the site is designed with consumers from many countries interested in different parts of the site. It has expanded from an etail site to serve as a source of information about the company and to work in concert with other partner brands.
Advantage123
An etail brand superstore selling consumer clectronics, computers and handheld deviced, t-shirts - footwear - clothing - golf and accessories, online gift certificates, the URL is now hurled directly to a yahoo store site, using the yahoo shopping and shipping technology. It is owned by AHIK, Inc., and enjoys a 5 Star rating on the site (2002).

eCompanyStore

Is a corporate merchandise solutions provider and now has high-profile customers: Microsoft, Fox News Channel, Home Box Office, and Fujitsu, which use the eCompanystore for ordering, and delivering company logo'd or company based merchandise (such as products from Microsoft's Company Store) as a benefit to employees and alumni.

Everythingdecor

Atlanta based Everythingdecor.com, a subsidiary of Flooring America, Inc. NYSE: FRA), was a 10-industry, design, décor and decorating web site which planned to unite independent retailers.

The planned web site allowed consumers to select options and find local retailers for products and services such as all aspects of decorating, including furniture, appliances, window treatments, art, flooring, wallpaper, electronics, paint, accessories and lighting. and then view the selections within a virtual house.

Paul Trau was President/COO of everythingdecor.com, which also had a very interesting business model to unite local businesses with the site.

eVineyard aka Wine.com

Portland, Oregon based eVineyard, Inc. is the largest online premium wine retailer in the United States, primarily through it's online storefront wine.com. Although wines can not be shipped to certain areas as local or state laws don't permit it, (e.g. Alaska) Jan. 21, 2002 eVineyard announced approaching profitability.

eVinyard's CEO, Larry Gerhard, formerly a software developer, launched the site on June 14, 1999, and in April of 2001 acquired some assets of Wine.com and Wineshopper.com (including the domain names) leaving eVineyard the last significant national wine retailer doing business exclusively via the Internet.

March 7, 2002 Peter S. Ekman became president and CEO of eVinyard/Wine.com, replacing Gerhard and interim president, Harold E. Hughes, Jr. Hughes, formerly Chairman and CEO of Pandesic LLC, remains on eVinyards/wine.com board of directors; previously he served as the CFO and treasurer of Intel Corporation.

eyestorm

An unusual fine art sales site based out of London, Our team members flew to London to help code the site by the date set by marketing.

They specialize in photography with a strong European taste preference. We agreed that "eyestorm" was a really great choice for the domain name.

The site has been progressively simplified since launching in 2000, overcoming download times. Enjoyed working with the Eyestorm team - cheerful folks!

farmamundo

Farmamundo was planned to offer online pharmacy services to Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina ("a pan-regional virtual pharmacy"). The Farmamundo Team is personal favorite of the business peopleweworked with while Pandesic remained afloat. (no logo available)

A Google query for "Farmamundo" (June 2002) lead to website recycling company http://www.webreco.com/ which leases pieces of site software componants for reuse.

In 2000 Salutia.com, an health care Internet company, merged with the U.S. company MedicoUno in a $75 million stock transaction. Salutia Medico Uno Network owned some shares in Farmamundo.

Such a site is a good idea, and it's time will come; current U.S. laws controlling prescription drugs ordered via the Web still call the legalities of doing business over the public Internet into question.

foldededge

Announced for launch July 3, 2000 by George Hodges, president and CEO of Folded Edge, he expected their low-cost marketing plans would differentiate their business to investors. At the time etailing companies budgeted as much as $100 million for branding -- spending hundreds of advertising dollars for each new customer hoping to gain marketshare.

The FoldedEdge marketing plan included selling high-end clothes targeting 25- to 35-year-olds through their employers intranet sites.

Hodges raised $4.2 million. The foldededge domain name is for sale (June, 2002) for 3K. (no logo available)

Safety and Supply
One of the oldest and most respected supply companies in Seattle,we consulted on the proposal, sale, and preliminary design for the Safety and Supply site with my five person team; a network engineer, database designer, UNIX developer, HTML scripter, and artist.
Roseanne’s Garage
A charity auction sponsored by The Roseanne Show, which enables bidding on Hollywood memorabilia. Our Northshore Tech team of five ported existing e-commerce technology from the parent site, wcollect.com, and hosted it on a secure Red Hat Linux server in Seattle.
WCollect Auction
Consultanted on scripting related to AOL browsers, graphics compression, web site applications, and hosting for maximum speed and security of this e-commerce business. Gave Webmaster list of specific remedies, applications, and techniques on web technology. Enjoyed attending management's round table discussions as lead technical consultant in Vancouver B.C. Canada.
Meridian Partners Ltd
As Webmaster with a team of eight, we created an intermediary site in about a week to coincide with the launch of MS's Visual Studio 6.0. MPL uses the site to attract new clients, to distribute a newsletter (in Publisher) for consultants in the field, for HR documentation, in HTML and Word, to recruit new employees (with an online database service), and for Press Releases.

We made MPL's site using Photoshop 5.0, Visual Studio 6.0, Liquid Motion, HTML, DHTML, Style Sheets, Active Server Pages, SQL Server, IIS 4.0, NT 4.0wealso lead the very successful online marketing for MPL.

Northwest Recruiters
This local recruiters organization is hosted by Meridian Partners Ltd.we managed the creation of nwrecruit.org with a graphic artist and two scripters in a few days.
GoalMakers, Management
A business site for well-known management consultant, Ken Willig. We redesigned his logo, making it "web worthy". Completed the site in less than two weeks using email, Notepad, Photoshop, NT 4.0, a LAN, and the phone, meeting the client when the site was complete.
Intec, Inc. Freezing Systems
Designed and rendered in about two weeks, this site illustrates a modern product which freezes and rotates food. They use the site for marketing to demonstrate to clients how the process works.

NW TeleWeb College
Dr. Michele LeBrasseur, Director of the Distance Learning Department at SCCD, created remote education for students using the new technique of integrating TV and the web. My information design is still in use. Hosting sponsored gratis by Joe Ferrara, CEO of Meridian Partners Ltd.
Seattle Community College District
As a consultant for four months my advice was to hire a qualified full-time webmaster, which they did.wereplaced large image maps, and streamlined the information already created.wesuggested creating standards for SCCD site(s), email, and an Internet Advisory Team.
LiveConcerts.com
At RealNetworkswe'd stay late into the night testing and occasionallywe'd find some nesting problem at sites Real sponsored.weadvised on editing with the developers in person. Usually they were graphical problems but sometimes the links sent the enduser into no-zone, so we'd fix it live on the UNIX server.
RealStore.com
The RealStore was my idea - CEO Rob Glasure had a couple cups made for Real's marketing department as a freebee, and he gave one away. Late one night when snacking on the Marketing Team's Thai food for dinner we suggested to VP Maria Cantwell that we create a "Realstore" where we could sell products related to RealAudio / RealVideo Players/Servers. Home to software, and goodies like the cup, the RealStore.com was born, using ICVerify to print money.
RealNetworks Service and Support
We redesigned the site and created new graphics. The most important contributionwemade at Real was to advise Dev (with Jeremy Hanson) to create a button on the Player to link endusers to support pages. This site explains resolutions for technical errors. Our ideas, such as the International Jukebox features, and the ability to store fave sites contributed to the product line.wewrote more than 100 technical knowledge base articles.
Videodiscovery Science Sleuths
We created more than 500 graphics, in about 3 months to match the existing style, in ATT's video program RIO as part of the Science Sleuths products.

Microsoft Kid's Educational
We managed 15 artists working on a variety of projects including games.wereviewed Project plans and resolved challenges regarding technical differences in color lookup tables used by the MacOS and Windows.

Microsoft TechNet
Contributed to the successful delivery of the Technet product by detailing how to process troublesome graphics file types into useful ones. Provided written documentation on the procedures developed.

Microsoft Developer's Network MSDN
Created many of the procedures used to obtain and convert graphics to needed formats.
